Prayer Journaling Day 2, Don’t Filter

Prayer Journal Pic.PNG

Prayer Journaling has to be different from everything else that you are doing right now. It’s not supposed to be like Bible Journaling, or coloring pages and staying inside the lines. I love all of that, but this is not about creating something new. You are the creation making space for your Creator. This is a sacred dialogue between you and God in letter form that is for your heart, not for the eyes.

Don’t filter your emotions, or worry about using the right words. You don’t have to edit the way your heart feels or make this sound pretty. Messiness will proceed your miracle. Just start with honest seeking, crying, and praying…then turn the page.

I wrote about my experience with Prayer Journaling here, just in case you missed the first post.

Let go of Pinterest pretty and remove your tendency to overthink everything.

Don’t worry about handwriting and spelling. I know, that’s hard and goes against everything that I do on a daily basis, but it also helps me to unpack the areas of my life that I want to control.

Tweet: “Spill it. Say it. Pray about it. Save the nice filter for later.”

Then, turn the page. Don’t reread or look at it for at least a month. This is pain moving forward to find God and the purpose that is attached to that pain. It’s about making peace with and seeking God in your story.

Here’s your promise for day 2, if you show up so will God.

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)

Let’s go a little deeper…here are scriptures look up and write in your journal on seeking God:

Deuteronomy 4:29 Seek and you will find

1 Chronicles 22:19 Set your heart and soul to seek the Lord

Jeremiah 24: 7 A heart to know God

*Leave a comment and let me know how you’re doing. Are you finding it hard to let go?

  1. Day 2…done. That was tough. It was harder than I thought to just write it all out and not worry about using the perfect words and making sure it was all tied up neatly with a bow. It was, however, very refreshing to put it all out there and say, \”okay, God…now what?\” I know I\’ve already thanked you for being faithful in writing these posts…but I\’ll thank you again if I want to! 😉❤️

    1. It is really hard, isn\’t it? I have been prayer journaling for a long time and still cringe at times when I don\’t filter the messy words, heart, and handwriting. I think…what if my kids find these when I\’m old (or dead) and think…my mom was crazy…and she couldn\’t spell. Ha. You are brave and fierce…I know this will bless you in the most beautifully, painful way. The, \”Okay, God…now what?\” is when the good, Jesus-stuff happens. 😉 Xo
